The scientific and intellectual production of any scientific or academic institution is one of the most important indicators of its advancement and development. It also reflects its cope with similar institutions in the developed countries. In order for this scientific and intellectual production of the university to reach the researchers and users, this production must be well prepared and well printed in a way that reflects the university's reputation and position since it is considered a cultural, academic and scientific facility.

The university, since its establishment, has realized the importance of publishing all kinds of knowledge and information between students, researchers and faculty members, in addition to people who are interested in certain fields of knowledge. This publishing has taken action in the university in 1391H (1971). Therefore, in 1393H (1973), a press was established when the university was located in Al-Malaz. This was a small beginning for this press since it had few chores and works. But, these chores and works have started to increase within time which made the university consider developing the press. So, after the university's movement to its location in Diriyah, a new press was established with a space of 45,000 m2 in the academic 1400/1401H (1980/1981). This new press was established with the newest designing and engineering methods, and it was provided with the best machines and modern printing technologies in order for this press to perform its role at its best and reach the global level.

Due to the various contributions of faculty members in the fields of compiling, translating and academic research, the Academic Council of the university in its 6th session held in 1398H (1978) has decided to establish an academic publishing department in the Deanship of Libraries all the permissions that will help in publishing the scientific and intellectual production. In 1397H, the university has issued the standards of academic publishing. In later sessions, few modifications have been made on these standards in order to cope with the recent international standards of academic publishing, and by that the KSU Press has started publishing according to these international standards which reflects the university's reputation and prestige in the world.

In 1417H (1997), the university rector has issued the movement of the Academic Publishing Department to the KSU Press, and this administration was given the name "Academic Publishing and Press" supervised by a faculty member of the university in order to intensify the work and publish books and journals as soon as possible, in addition to enhancing and developing the units and departments of this new administration.
