Due to the joining
of the Academic Publishing Department and KSU
Press under one administration, several
developing processes have been made including:
1.
Creating
pages through the unified electronic method.
2.
Complete
digital printing for publishing booklets.
3.
Setting
a developing plan with many phases and enhancing
the printing machines and instruments, according
to the approved budget. This developing plan has
been implemented as follows:
a)
First
developing phase:
This phase was
approved in the budget of the academic year
1426/1427H. The following instruments were
provided and installed:
1.
70 x 100
cm offset printing machine (5-color).
2.
50 x 70
cm offset printing machine (4-color).
3.
Automatic folding machine.
4.
Machine
for cutting papers in different sizes.
5.
Multi-size CTP machine for automatic
photocopying of zinc plates which is performed
directly from a computer. This technology was
first introduced in this phase since films were
made manually or automatically, and then the
plates are made after that.
b)
Second
developing phase:
This phase was
approved in the budget of the academic year
1427/1428H. The following instruments are being
provided and installed:
1.
35 x 52
cm GTO printing machine (4-color).
2.
Complete
binding line (collecting, binding, drying,
cutting, …etc.).
3.
Automatic folding machine.
4.
Modern
paper-cutting machine.
5.
Complete
line for collecting carbonated paper.
The Computer and
Designing Section has been provided with new PCs
that have modern software for typing and
designing in addition to complete office
accessories. Also, the Academic Publishing
Department has been provided with PCs in order
to edit and correct all materials
electronically. The Academic Publishing and
Press is looking forward to coordinating with
the General Administration for Computer and
Information Systems to provide a software that
links all the departments in the press.
c)
Third
developing phase:
This is a future
developing plan which will be in the next
academic year. It aims at providing the Academic
Publishing and Press with new printing machines
and replacing the old ones. These new machines
are:
1. 70
x 100 cm offset printing machine (4-color).
2. Two
70 x 100 cm offset printing machines (2-color).
3. 50
x 70 cm offset printing machine (2-color).
4. Two
2-color GTO printing machines.
5. CTP
machine (for automatic plate photocopying).
6. Automatic
folding machine.
7. Modern
paper-cutting machine.
8. Automatic
sewing machine.
9. Digital
printing machine (4-color).
10. Other
instruments such as (automatic staplers,
machines for breaking and gold painting, …etc.).
The Academic Publishing and Press has
coordinated with the Vice Presidency for
Projects to enhance the electric wires in the
press as a first stage of development, and it
has provided a study for one of the national
establishments to find solutions for air
conditioning in the old building in order to
provide a suitable environment for workers.
There will also be a second stage of development
in which the press will be fed with enough power
and energy, and provide full maintenance for the
old building. After the cooperation with the
General Administration for Computer and
Information Systems, network wires have been
installed because modern machines can be
connected with pre-printing machines to provide
the necessary printing information through
certain software. Also, all modern machines have
to have access to the manufacturer (through the
Internet) for performance monitoring and
locating any technical errors that may occur. |
